Body Maps
Check monthly. Stay ahead.

Designate one day each month to check your companion animal for any new or unusual things. Utilize the body maps below to identify and track any changes you see regarding your companion animal and share them with your veterinary professionals during scheduled appointments. When doing monthly checks, focus on these five areas:
- Lumps and Skin (be mindful of new bumps, matting, parasites, etc.)
- Eyes and Ears (note any redness, discharge, odor, or the like)
- Mouth and Teeth (identify any bad breath, tartar, red gums, or similar)
- Weight and Body Condition (notice if you can feel ribs/waistline; note muscle mass and symmetry)
- Mobility and Behavior (document any changes in movement, energy, appetite)
These quick and important monthly checks may assist in catching early signs of health issues before they become serious and/or allow you to take swift action as soon as possible. They are also great opportunities to practice Cooperative Care (“opt-in” training teaching your companion animal to willingly participate in their own handling)!
